Oxcarbazepine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and is used to treat various conditions, including:

Oxcarbazepine is also used to treat depression, which is a condition where the levels of certain chemicals in the brain are decreased and this affects mood and emotions.
The following conditions may be treated with oxcarbazepine.
• BPH or depression;
• Severe anxiety or anxiety and depression.

Oxcarbazepine is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age, or if they have any medical conditions, especially:
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding;

If you are allergic to oxcarbazepine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, you should not use Oxcarbazepine. If you are also a patient who has been advised by your doctor to avoid pregnancy, you should not use Oxcarbazepine.

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) is approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of bipolar disorder and the maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder in adults and children. It has been found to be effective for the treatment of both bipolar and depressive disorders, with a success rate of 70–80% for depressive disorders.
Trileptal is the first and only FDA-approved for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
